TTHTI Shuttle Service
by Tamara Bailey - Monday, 6 February 2012, 12:17 PM

Dear Students,

We are pleased to inform you that the TTHTI Shuttle will begin operating from tomorrow, Tuesday, February 7th, 2012. We will start with running the service from 1:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. between TTHTI and Port of Spain.

The shuttle will also be employed when students are required to remain late on the campus for functions and practical classes - once we get the information from the lecturers well enough in advance, we will make it available.

In order for the service to be of maximum benefit to all involved, please note the following:

  • The evening trips from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. are for the part-time students who finish classes around these times, NOT for full-time students who stay behind on the compound for leisure activities. The part-time students will be given priority, and if there is space, then full-time students will be allowed. Please be considerate of your fellow students.
  • We expect that when boarding the shuttle, you will all do so in an ORDERLY, DISCIPLINED manner - the driver has been instructed to keep the doors closed if the right behaviour is not displayed
  • We expect that you will display ORDERLY AND DISCIPLINED behaviour when on board the shuttle - no loud talking, obscene language, excessive movement - this behaviour will distract the driver and can place you, and him, in danger
  • We expect that you will treat the shuttle with RESPECT and not vandalize the vehicle in any way - no littering, writing on seats etc. - or the service will be suspended.
  • The shuttle is for TTHTI students and staff ONLY - please do not ask the driver to pick up friends, relatives etc. that are not students or staff, because he has been instructed not to do so.
  • We expect that you treat the driver with RESPECT and not abuse or heckle him.
  • A surveillance system has been installed in the vehicle to ensure that the aforementioned rules are being observed. If it is found that you breach these rules, you will be banned from using the shuttle.

Please note that this is a new arrangement and we will be monitoring it to determine is adjustments need to be made. We would welcome your feedback, concerns, suggestions etc. through the Student Guild.

Thank you in advance for your usual cooperation.

Scholarships - Monroe College
by Tamara Bailey - Monday, 6 February 2012, 12:15 PM

Dear Students,

Please see the information below from Monroe College on scholarships to study at their campus in New Rochelle, New York:

Dear Mrs. Ribeiro-Bailey:

Greetings from Monroe College! I hope you had a safe and happy holiday and all the best for the New Year! As we move into 2012, Monroe is continuing its dedication to helping students achieve their goals in life. With that said, starting on January 15th, the committee will begin reviewing students for academic scholarship consideration for the Fall (September) 2012 semester. The first rounds of reviews for the scholarships will take place between January 15th – January 31st.

Applicants are strongly advised to complete the application process for January 31st in order to be in the first rounds of consideration. Usually this is when the best scholarships are awarded.

We here at Monroe know you too are dedicated to assisting your students as they move on to a higher level of education. To this end, we are asking for your recommendations on students that will be a good fit for Monroe College and also have sufficient support both emotionally and financially from their parents or guardians in order to qualify for a student visa.

Scholarships are limited and are awarded to the most qualified candidates on a “first come, first served” basis. In order to be reviewed for acceptance and scholarship consideration, each candidate will have to submit the following:

-       Completed Online Applcation: they can access the application by visiting www.monroecollege.edu

-       Admissions Essay: In no less than 350 words, please describe the personal growth you hope to gain from studying at Monroe College.

-       Copy of AAS/BBA degree transcript

-       High School Transcript: a copy can be faxed while the original is sent via mail

-       Copy of CXC O’Levels and/or CAPE A’Level results

-       Copy of High School leaving Certificate.

-       2 letters of recommendation: 1 recommendation is required from the Principal/ Dean or Guidance Counselor

-       Financial Sponsor Information: Name of the person who will be financially responsible for the student should he or she decide to study in the US. This information is needed to properly assist the student through the student visa process.

Please indicate your interest in applying for the scholarships by way of an email to me, Mrs. Bailey, by February 10th, 2012. Please make every effort to meet this deadline as we have a deadline to submit the required documents to Monroe, which they so kindly extended just for us.

Please note that indicating interest does not automatically mean you will receive the scholarship - you will be pre-screened by TTHTI and then if you make the short list submitted to Monroe College, they will also conduct their own selection process.

Several TTHTI students over the years have been able to attend Monroe upon graduating due to these scholarships, so I would encourage you to explore this opportunity.
